Temporary waiver follows other California cities
Yorba Linda, Calif.- Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) play an important role in helping Yorba Linda provide State-mandated housing units that are affordable at all income levels.
Commonly known as "granny flats," ADUs tend to be relatively small units with modest amenities, making them an ideal option for seniors, students, caretakers, young families, and people with disabilities.
Housing Obligation
Because California State law now allows nearly every residential property to construct at least one ADU and one Junior ADU, encouraging this type of construction helps the City meet its housing obligations with fewer impacts to the density of local neighborhoods.
Maximizing ADU construction helps the City maintain flexibility and local control in meeting California's requirements. So, the City of Yorba Linda is temporarily waiving all City plan check and permit fees associated with ADU projects, helping homeowners save approximately $4,500.
In addition, development impact fees cannot be charged for ADUs under 750 square feet, saving another $2,000 for smaller builds. However, the City's fees will be reinstated after the program ends on June 30, 2023.
