January workshop, March tree planting
Orange, Calif.- In Fiscal Year 2020, The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) awarded the California Urban Forest Council (CaUFC) approximately $1.5 million in grant funding under a grant program entitled CIRCLE 4.0 – Amplifying California's Urban Forest Movement.
The goal of the program is to improve and diversify urban forests in disadvantaged and low income communities throughout California by planting 2,000 statewide in one day.
CaUFC contracted part of the tree planting effort to West Coast Arborists (WCA), who subsequently contacted the City about participating in the program.
Tree Planting
As a result, 65 trees will be planted on March 12 at Grijalva and Yorba Parks. As part of the program, WCA and the City are collaborating with the Santiago Creek Greenway Alliance (Greenway Alliance) to coordinate volunteers to assist in planting the trees at both parks.
In preparation for the event, WCA, the Greenway Alliance, and the City will co-host a community workshop on January 29, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Grijalva Sports Center to allow interested volunteers the opportunity to learn about the trees that will be planted in March.
The event on March 12 will begin at 8am at Grijlava Park. Following the program, some volunteers and staff will travel to Yorba Park to plant trees while others will remain at Grijlava Park to plant trees.
