Laguna Niguel among California's Best

Laguna Niguel, CA – The City of Laguna Niguel has been ranked #6 among California's Top 50 Safest Cities according to the 2022 Safest Cities Report conducted by SafeWise.

This year's ranking is two places higher than the prior ranking of #8 in 2021. This result is undoubtedly attributed to the City's hard working law enforcement professionals and its attentive and involved community members.

"Our alert and engaged residents who 'see something, say something' play a large role in keeping our community safe."

Mayor Elaine Gennawey

Public Safety

"I am proud to announce that Laguna Niguel is recognized as the 6th safest city in California. Public Safety is goal #1 in the City's Strategic Plan," said Mayor Elaine Gennawey. "The Laguna Niguel City Council's continued prioritization of Public Safety by providing the necessary staffing and resources has moved our City 2 rankings higher this year. Our sincere gratitude goes to our public safety partner, the deputies of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, as well as City staff and our dedicated volunteers of the PACT team who together comprise Laguna Niguel Police Services. Our alert and engaged residents who 'see something, say something' play a large role in keeping our community safe. Let's continue to work together for the safe community we value so that we can enjoy all that Laguna Niguel has to offer."

FBI Crime Data

The Annual SafeWise Safest Cities Report uses FBI crime statistics data to rank cities in each state and across the country. The report relies on voluntary, self-reported information that cities and jurisdictions across the country report through the FBI Summary Reporting System (SRS) and National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). To add extra insight and depth, the report also includes demographic information and the results of SafeWise's proprietary State of Safety research study.

The report determined that all of the 10 Safest Cities in California, including the City of Laguna Niguel, reported violent and property crime rates below state, regional, and US rates. Additionally, among the safest cities, there were fewer reports of each major property crime this reporting year. The City's violent crime rate maintained at a low level of 0.6 from the prior year, and the City's property crime rate decreased from 9.1 to 8.7. These low rates further demonstrate the City's commitment to public safety and the City's emphasis on taking a proactive approach to deter crime.
