Public Workshop on Garden Grove Redistricting

Plus a Series of Public Hearings

Garden Grove, Calif.- The City invites the community to attend a public workshop to provide input on the Garden Grove City Council election district map for the 2020 Census redistricting process. The workshop will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center A Room, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue. The public workshop will be facilitated by David Ely from Compass Demographics.

Every 10 years, local governments use new data from the Census Bureau to update district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. The resulting City Council district boundaries must be balanced in population in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Redistricting is important in ensuring that each City Council member represents approximately the same number of constituents.

The City will also host a series of public hearings starting on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chamber, at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center.

Dates and times for upcoming public hearings:

  • Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

Spanish and Vietnamese translators will be available for the public workshop and all the public hearings. Translators for Chinese and Korean must be requested at least 72 hours in advance by contacting the City Clerk's Office at (714) 741-5040 or cityclerk@ggcity.org. Any person requiring auxiliary aids and services due to a disability, please contact the City Clerk's Office at least 72 hours prior to the meeting to arrange accommodations.

Garden Grove is made up of six districts, each with its own elected representative. The City adopted the voting district map and elections in 2016. Following the public workshop and public hearings, the finalized district map will help create and define the six Garden Grove City Council districts which will impact how residents elect their City Council members for the next 10 years.

For more information on redistricting, visit ggcity.org/redistricting or contact Maria Stipe, Assistant City Manager at (714) 741-5100.
